(Un)Dressing Religion, Clothing, and Identity

Women's Studies Research Center (WSRC)

A panel discussion tied with the WSRC summer exhibition, Dress • Redress. The exhibition brings together eight contemporary artists who – critically, ambivalently, or monumentally – address the relationship between clothing and identity. Via subthemes as varied as religion, memory, gender roles, popular media, and environmental awareness, each artist challenges us to rethink clothing’s significance. Participating artists include Aparna Agrawal, Candice Smith Corby, Maryjean Viano Crowe, Carol Hamoy, Sandra Eula Lee, Esther Solondz, Andrew Thompson, and Leslie Wilco.

Brandeis Office of the Arts

The Festival of the Creative Arts was founded in 1952 by legendary composer and Brandeis faculty member Leonard Bernstein. It is dedicated to his belief that “the art of an era is a reflection of the society in which it is produced, and through creative endeavors the thoughts and expression which characterize each generation are revealed and transformed.” The annual spring event features international, national and regional artists and performers as well as students and faculty.
