Of critical importance to world security, economic viability and cultural diversity in the 21st century, South Asia and Oceania have a long history and bright future in the Brandeis experience. Faculty and students across the university have been collaborating on research and policy in public health, gender and equality and economic growth in the region for more than two decades by building mutual partnerships with institutions and communities, while the campus is further enriched by two major student groups and a recent art exhibit focusing on women and art in India. In 2007, a new interdisciplinary program in South Asian Studies was launched, reflecting the growing prominence of the region in the modern era and the Brandeis curriculum.
