Hiatt World-of-Work fellow interning for “Voice of America” in China this summer

Eli Harrington '09 gets chance to report on Summer Olympic Games

Talk about a gold medal gig- Eli Harrington’09 is spending his summer in China working for Voice of America, where his duties for the Beijing bureau will likely include covering activities at the Summer Olympic Games.

The opportunity was made possible, in part, thanks to the Hiatt Career Center’s World-of-Work (WOW) Internship Program, which provides $3500 awards to Brandeis sophomores and juniors who want to intern with organizations that do not have the financial resources to provide a salary. Harrington is one of 55 WOW interns this summer; others are working in such far-off places as Egypt, Colombia, and Italy, as well as around the United States, for a diverse group of organizations including hospitals, theaters, government offices, archaeological sites, and national forests.

“Hiatt is exceedingly proud to offer this extraordinary program to Brandeis students to further their career exploration and professional development,” said Hiatt Director Joseph DuPont. “These interns have arranged unpaid internships at some of the most renowned organizations in their fields, and these opportunities meet a wide range of students’ individual learning objectives. WOW’s financial support removes financial barriers so that they can discover their passions, connect with new colleagues, and apply classroom learning to real-world settings.”
