Alexis Rockman: The Weight of Air
The New Authentics: Artists of the Post-Jewish Generation
Paper Trail II: Passing Through Clouds

Rose Art Museum

This first major U.S. solo exhibition by Alexis Rockman, the Ruth Ann and Nathan Perlmutter Artist-in-Residency, who is known for creating information-rich scenes that offer socially charged predictions, including the future effects of genetic engineering and global warming. Over the past two years, he has been creating an extraordinary new body of works on paper that reveals a depth of experimental process resulting in a unique mix of beauty, feelings of wonder and encroaching catastrophe. Read the Boston Globe review here.

The New Authentics: Artists of the Post-Jewish Generation, featuring works by 16 prominent American artists, examines how these artists are informed by their particular experiences as Jews and will address complex notions of Jewishness in American culture.

Paper Trail II: Passing Through Clouds is the second in a series of exhibitions in which artists integrate their own work with pieces they select from the museum’s works on paper collection. The project offers the rare opportunity to showcase samples from more than 2,000 works on paper owned by the Rose Art Museum. Margaret Evangeline curated the first artist exhibition in 2007. Odili Donald Odita is the featured artist/curator for Paper Trail II.

Dress Redress

Through September 25

Dress • Redress
Women’s Studies Research Center

The exhibition Dress • Redress brings together eight contemporary artists who – critically, ambivalently, or monumentally – address the relationship between clothing and identity. Via subthemes as varied as religion, memory, gender roles, popular media, and environmental awareness, each artist challenges us to rethink clothing’s significance. Participating artists include Aparna Agrawal, Candice Smith Corby, Maryjean Viano Crowe, Carol Hamoy, Sandra Eula Lee, Esther Solondz, Andrew Thompson, and Leslie Wilco.
